Reflections -

Greetings Hazelwood! I trust that you are doing well – even in the midst of all that is happening within our community, nation and world. As I type this month’s article to you, we find ourselves still in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is hard to believe that, according to my calendar (which is absolutely useless!), we are now on day 140 since life as we had come to know it – changed. These have been and continue to be days of retooling and adjustment. We have found ourselves adjusting to a “new normal.”

I want you to know that I am so appreciative of each one and all that you have been willing to do in adjusting. Your positive affirmations and willingness to continue to be the family of God at Hazelwood is such an encouragement and blessing. Thank you from the bottom of this pastor’s heart for being patient and understanding.

As you know, some have “re-gathered” on Sunday mornings for our worship service. It has been heart lifting to see faces in the pews – eyes smiling! In the four weeks that we have been gathered in the sanctuary, we have averaged around 60 people. I am also so grateful for those that continue to be a part of our “virtual” church family who join with us weekly through our Facebook live feed. Each week we know that roughly 200+ participate in our worship service as they gather in their homes. I am grateful to everyone that is doing such an amazing job in continuing to rise to the challenges and meet the needs.

I want us to make sure that we are continuing to reach out to those that are unable to physically join us on Sunday mornings or who do not have the technology to join with us virtually. With many of our folks being “older”, let’s continue to find ways to stay connected. Relationships are so vital within a church family and I want us to make sure that every person that is a part of HBC feels connected, loved and treasured. Continue to contact others and let them know that you love them…..and miss them. Together, we will discover and embrace new and exciting days in the life of Hazelwood!

The sanctuary project has almost reached completion and it looks absolutely amazing! I appreciate so much all of the amazing work that has been done – all for the glory of God! Thank you especially to Ray and Gail Moody for spearheading the work and pouring their hearts (and time) into making sure that the work was completed. Thank you to those that gave financially – some anonymously and others who gave in various ways – some generally and others through memorial gifts. There are still a few additional projects that are being discussed. If you would like more information, let Ray Moody know of your interest. To God be the Glory! Great things He has done….and is doing!

Finally, let me encourage you to continue to be “On Mission” for Jesus. These are truly unprecedented days in which we are living. Yet, the opportunities for ministry are just as unprecedented. As I have told you before, I believe that God is giving us grand opportunities to be diligent in our witness in these days. Pray daily for God’s direction and plan in your life. Listen to His promptings leading you to be the hands and feet (and voice) of Jesus. Reach out to others and be an encourager. Pray for your church staff, deacons, leadership teams and the ministries of HBC…..and pray for each other.

Always know that I am praying for you and thanking God for you. Your words and prayers mean so very much. If there is ever a time that I can specifically pray for you please let me know. It is an honor and blessing to be your pastor and to have you as a brother or sister in Christ. Stay close to Jesus. And remember…..

You are loved
